Dong Artisan Collective
Exquisite handmade white bronze pendant from the Dong ethnic people of Xiage village, China. This unique piece features intricate traditional embroidery in vibrant blues, pinks, and greens creating a flowing wave pattern, set within an ornate white bronze pouch-shape frame with traditional beaded detailing.
A pouch in this shape is 荷包 (Hé bāo) in Chinese. The Hébāo is a traditional Chinese accessory symbolizing fortune, luck, and affection. In ancient times, people used it to carry coins, herbs, or perfume before pockets existed, and it became a reflection of one’s taste and status. Often exchanged as gifts during festivals or between lovers, the Hébāo conveyed blessings and good wishes.
Handcrafted by minority artisans in a female-owned cooperative, this piece represents centuries of Dong cultural heritage and exceptional metalwork craftsmanship.
